This story does not have a full treatment as yet, so this is the synopsis, or short out line description and there will also be two different outcomes. This shell of a story idea is inspired by my views on gun laws versus the fact that some people will turn to a gun to help solve whatever grievances they are facing, and the extreme example, being the many school shootings that occur. I also wanted to explore these various reasons, and how they can be detected sooner rather than later, and perhaps then stopping a drastic action from a human with a gun.
This story centres mainly around an essay that is written by a 15 year old boy named Jacob Denton, how it is written, but more importantly who will get to read it. In the first version, Jacob’s essay gets snatched by a group of his everyday bullies, a gang of 5 kids led by a boy named Chase Fields, who torment Jacob every day at school. They tear up his essay and no one gets to read it. This will set Jacob off to plan and carry out a violent act on his school. In the second version,the same bullies try to snatch Jacob’s essay, but it is seen by a teacher who intervenes and stops them from destroying it, and therefore it does get read. Jacob is then recognised as a gifted writer, and this will lead to him carrying on with his life, on the path and the future that he has always dreamt of, becoming a published writer.
I will be writing Jacob’s essay as mentioned in the above description, and it will appear in my longer treatment. I feel that having the two different outcomes will give off more of an impactful message to the viewing audience, much as the movie ‘Sliding Doors’, where if you go in one direction, it could be bad, but if you go through the other door, it can be a better choice. The two songs of inspiration were ‘Subdivision’ by the Canadian Trio ‘Rush’, and ‘The Age Of Reason’, by Australia’s own singing artist, ‘John Farnham’.
